Professional Experience

I am dedicated to complete transparency in order to create long lasting partnerships in the industry  - based on mutual trust and understanding.

I have dedicated my career to be a leader who takes accountability and who ensures the success of the team and the organization. My military service started in 1992, and my IT career began in 1998. Since 2005 I have been working in OT exclusively.

2022– 2025                            

Armexa – Various Projects – Director of OT/ICS Security

Responsible for business development, client relations and leading the technology and deployment team of OT security specialists.

Designed, led and executed a 55 site Armis deployment for a US based midstream oil company.

Senior Technical Authority for a large-scale Ignition SCADA migration as the midstream company moved away from Cygnet. Designed and oversaw the deployment of the network security architecture for the South Texas operating region and was final authority for all teams and all technical design and architecture decisions.

In addition to client relations my primary function within Armexa was to create the internal company culture that allowed highly effective teams to be organized and maintained.

 

2011-2021

Accenture/Cimation – Principal Director - OT Security

Accenture acquired Cimation in 2015 to spearhead it's global OT practice. Dates and projects of both Cimation and Accenture are from 2011 to 2021.

 

2019 – 2021

Accenture - Global Deployment of Nozomi and Claroty Network Monitoring Solutions

During 2018 through 2021 I led the monitoring solution delivery team as part of the Accenture OT security team, which included several large-scale deployments of Claroty and Nozomi across oil and gas, manufacturing and chemicals. This role was centered on effective client delivery and leading effective teams.

Accenture – Major oil and gas company – Senior Manager – OT Security

Global Deployment of Nozomi Network Monitoring Solution

Technical lead for a major oil and gas company deploying a new PCN network monitoring system across 62 sites in the USA, including obtaining a resident visa in Oman to deploy Nozomi at all 7 operating assets in the Middle East region.

 

2017 – 2018                          

Accenture – major oil and gas company – Senior Manager - OT Security

Global Deployment of ProtectWise Network Monitoring Solution

Technical lead at a major oil and gas company to deploy ProtectWise across 11 offshore assets globally, and US based utilities using SCADA systems that managed the wind turbine power generation sites.

 

2014 – 2017                          

Accenture/Cimation (Amsterdam, Netherlands) – Manager – OT Security
Global End Point Hardening and Remediation Program for Downstream Refineries – Super-Major Oil and Gas Company

Deployment lead for a Super-Major oil and gas company as the organization migrated to a custom network monitoring and endpoint asset management system. As part of the Client Central Team, I led a team of Cimation, client and CGI resources to deploy the solution as well as harden and remediate all Windows based systems across more than 10 refineries world-wide. Mastered the new technology, designed and implemented the deployment strategy, trained the teams and oversaw global execution while personally being boots on the ground in the three largest refineries in the EU and APAC, as well as smaller refineries worldwide. Developed training materials for site personnel and remediation teams, managed project status and progress to executive leadership team in a highly visible and high priority project inside the client organization. Solved complex technical issues during deployment and remediation phases of the project and was the sole point of contact for resolving all issues at sites. Trained and guided other teams as the project expanded past the early adopter phase and became the communications point of contact for the whole PCN inventory and management system.

 

2013  - 2014                          

Cimation (Houston, TX) – Industrial IT Consulting Manager

Led and managed the Houston based Cimation OT Security Team

Responsible for business development, client relations and building an effective OT security team while leading and executing technical projects at operating assets in the continental United States.


2013

Asset Acquisition Project - Cimation (Houston, TX) – Industrial IT Consulting Manager

Spearheaded the acquisition effort for a Super-Major oil and gas company as they acquired former Chesapeake assets in the Permian Basin, Texas, USA. Project centered around designing and installing a new process control domain network including routers and firewalls, assimilating the complex infrastructure of cellular modems and radio networks for the field devices, and achieving a smooth cutover ahead of schedule. A complete virtualized SCADA environment was designed and implemented with specific focus on end point hardening and best security practices. The project also included a complete redesign of the existing telecommunications infrastructure including radio links to the well pads.

 

2012 – 2013                           

Cimation (Houston, TX) – Industrial IT Consultant, Senior

Process Control Network Implementation – Major Oil and Gas company. Designed and built a green field network including routers, firewalls and fiber backbone. This was a medium scale gas plant that included a detailed study to determine the appropriate network design.

Cimation (Houston, TX) – Industrial IT Consultant, Senior

Process Control Network Active Directory – Super-Major Oil and Gas company. Designed and implemented a complete Active Directory environment for the Wyoming complex including group policy settings, migrating existing user accounts and upgrading the Cygnet server architecture into the new domain.

 

2011 – 2012                           

Cimation (Houston, TX) – Industrial IT Consultant, Senior

Offshore Telecommunications Project – Super-Major Oil and Gas company - Offshore Platform.  As part of a topsides replacement project all communications on the platform were relocated from multiple locations to a single new MCC building. Responsible for coordinating 10 communications providers during the installation of the new building and creating a detailed cutover plan, the documentation, drawings and validating the plan against the clients’ internal practices as well as spending time offshore to ensure a smooth transition. Extensive work with 3rd party suppliers to ensure a secure communications infrastructure was set up

 

 

 

2005 – 2011                           

Total E&P USA (Houston, TX) – Technical Lead, Senior

(Contractor: Sentigy Inc. and Packet Security Inc.)

E&P Corporate Datacenter: Infrastructure Administrator: Daily administration of Active Directory at the Enterprise / Office Domain level for Total E&P USA. Position was based in the US and centered on application and infrastructure management of the US headquarters. Acted as the primary technical engineer on all large-scale IT projects and was point of contact for all vendor related software or server implementations. Served as 3rd level support for North and South American E&P infrastructure administrators for North and South American offices including the Canadian affiliate. Directly responsible for 100 servers, 500+ workstations and 3 remote platforms offshore in the US with a focus on disaster recovery planning and backup / restore methodology. After a server rationalization assessment, we reduced from 100 physical servers to 20 physical and Esxi servers while maintaining a total count of 90 virtualized servers. Conducted monthly visits to the platforms as well as being lead engineer on all telecommunication or IT projects offshore. Acted as the final escalation for all technical issues for the US Headquarters branch. I was one of 6 Enterprise Active Directory Administrators managing 98,000+ Total Corporate IT workstations and servers worldwide.

 

E&P IT Administrator – Operations Technology: In addition to the classic enterprise IT functions I performed at Total USA listed above, I was also the technical lead for our 3 offshore platforms in the Gulf of Mexico. In this capacity I supported operations personnel and worked directly with operations leadership to analyze and improve the technology and security posture of the 3 platforms and acted as the first escalation for all offshore technical issues and projects. I designed and implemented the microwave network solution to replace the aging VSAT design, upgraded the network systems on all platforms and supported all control systems and 3rd party vendors operating on the platforms. Monthly face-to-face visits were required, and I typically spent 1 week per month offshore working with operations on various projects.

​Midstream Oil and Gas Operating Company

Senior Technical Authority for OT security while the company conducted a migration from Cygnet to the new Ignition SCADA system. (See Case Studies, Ignitition Migration, for more details)

Midstream Oil and Gas Operating Company

Designed a reference architecture to support a companywide re-architecture of the OT PCN operating environment.

Process Control Security Remediation – Super-Major oil and gas company. Using the client’s internal security practices the project focused on remediating the Pinedale Wyoming, USA facility’s servers and routers. Worked with the client global security team to do a complete site assessment and remediate deviations found in order to bring the site to full compliance.  This included hardening the Windows operating systems and virtualizing the Active Directory domain and key Purdue Security Level L3 and L2 Windows systems. Part of this project included deploying routers and AT&T Edge devices to connect new sites to the main office.

Offshore Telecommunications Project: Topside replacement on two offshore pipeline platforms at a Super-Major oil and gas company in the Gulf of Mexico USA. On platform 1 I supported the client installing a new MCC building with securely upgraded PLC’s. This project included an automation cutover from old PLCs to the new PLC systems. The telecommunications segment included moving 9 antenna and working offshore with multiple vendors to ensure a smooth transition into the new building, with similar work on the 2nd platform in the same year.

Process Control Security Audit – Major Downstream Chemical Company:  I conducted a CSET audit focused on the process control network to identify compliance issues and security risks. Developed an audit strategy for Cimation team members to execute and then reviewed results with the client to determine a remediation path forward.

Process Control Firewall Deployment - Major Downstream Chemical Company: Designed and deployed a standardized firewall solution using Fortinet devices for the chemical facility in Freeport Texas. The existing process control security was evaluated and a decision made to deploy a dedicated firewall with intrusion detection and network monitoring.

ESXi Virtual Server Deployment – Major Oil and Gas company: Installed and configured the EXSi virtual server environment to host multiple ABB virtual operating systems. Project was part of a FEED study to determine best process control infrastructure and included a virtual network design, virtual server creation and integrating the ABB application into the virtual PCN.
